BETHESDA, MD (March 18, 2022) – Paley Rothman is pleased to announce that David Shapiro will become the next President of the Maryland State Bar Association.
“David has been active in the MSBA for the past 15 years and to be recognized in this manner by your peers is very special and an extremely significant accomplishment,” says Paley Rothman Co-President James R. Hammerschmidt. “We congratulate David and look forward to celebrating with him and supporting him during his term in office.”
The Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors elected David as its President-Elect, meaning that he will become the MSBA President on June 3, 2022, at the MSBA’s annual meeting. He will serve in that role until June 2023.
Paley Rothman is a strong advocate of lawyers being active in state, local, and specialty bar associations and has had three past Presidents of the Bar Association for Montgomery County. David will be the first Paley Rothman attorney to head the Bar for the entire State of Maryland and its 20,000 members.
David is the Chair of Paley Rothman's Health Law practice group, and a member of the firm's Corporate, Employment Law, Science & Technology and Government Contracts practice groups. He has an extensive background representing business entities, healthcare providers, surgical centers, professional service vendors, and entrepreneurs in a broad range of general business, commercial, regulatory, and complex transactional matters, including early-stage business planning, business management and operations, equity and asset transfers, inter- and intra-business contract relationships, mergers and acquisitions, and collaborative and adversarial business owner and proxy dispute resolutions. David received his J.D. from The Columbus School of Law, The Catholic University of America, where he was a member of the Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy and awarded the Extra Mile Award for outstanding service and contributions to the law school community. He received his B.A. from the University of Maryland at College Park.
