Glenn Cooper and Art House were featured presenters at the Business Law Institute seminar hosted by the MSBA on Wednesday, March 26th. Glenn’s presentation, entitled “Control Issues in Business Entity Disputes,” addressed Maryland law on entity control issues, including “squeeze out” minorities, remedies, and advice about representing a departing stockholder/member/partner in instances where there are no governing agreements. Art’s presentation, “Why the Standard Arbitration Clause Doesn’t Work and What To Do About It,” examined how costs and outcomes of arbitration may be influenced by customizing the standard arbitration provision most often found in contracts.
He offered specific examples of customized dispute resolution provisions that control discovery, application of law and arbitrator authority to shape the arbitration process. Glenn is co-chair of the firm’s Litigation and Family Law practice groups. Art is a member of the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution, Corporate, and Science & Technology practice groups.
