Employee Benefits Legislative Developments and Tax Reform

The Florida West Coast Employee Benefits Council has been providing an educational and networking forum for employee benefits professionals in the Tampa Bay area since the 1980s. “Legislative Developments, Including Tax Reform,” was presented by Paula Calimafde at the May 15th meeting. The presentation covered such topics as the possible elimination of the stretch IRA under the Retirement Enhancement and Savings Act of 2018 (RESA), what can be done about the Voluntary Correction Program (VCP) increased fee issue, the use of cash balance plans to get the taxable income of pass-through entities down to a level where they qualify for the 20% reduction under the new Internal Revenue Code Section 199A and what impact there might be on retirement plans for pass-through entities due to the reduced value of the retirement plan deductions.
Paula Calimafde chairs the firm’s Retirement Plans, Employee Benefits and Government Relations practice groups and is also a senior member of the Estate Planning, Tax and Nonprofit groups.
